44-85813 In storage at Tom Reilly Vintage Aircraft are the remains of B-17G 44-85813. This particular B-17 was one of two modified by Boeing in 1945 as engine test-beds with the provisions for an engine installation forward of the cockpit. 44-85813 was bailed to Curtiss Wright initially for development work on the R-3350 engine. It was later purchased by Wright and operated as N6694C. In 1967 it was sold to a tanker operator who installed a scrapped nose section off s/n 44-83316 to operate the airplane. It crashed in April 1980 with the forward fuselage burning out. The wreckage was obtained by Reilly. These views show various sections in storage in 1999. (Photos courtesey of Rick Reeves)
