Greybull PB4Y's - Scrap??

Post by FoCoB17G »

Heard from a friends uncle who lives near Greybull Wyoming that the PB4Ys that were converted to firefighters are being scrapped for parts by "restoration teams."

Can anyone confirm?

I have some negative feelings about it. First off, really it just means that parts will be taken from otherwise complete aircraft simply to sell them to whoever will pay, for a large profit... I don't know of any B-24 restorations that are looking to be airworthy and would need the parts.

And then, what of the airframes?? No parts means no value, no value means cut up and melted... We have lost enough planes in the first wave of scrap, especially large ones.

I may be wrong, but that's my reaction.

EDIT: These are some historical aircraft, in many ways reminding me of Tallmantz (specifically their firefighting conversions). If this is really happening, it is a sad day indeed.
