One for the detectives

Post by Dan Johnson »

Haven't had any new 17 images to post in a while. Broke that string this week when I picked up this one. On the back it says "The General's Plane" Burtonwood.

Wondering if anyone has come across an ID for this bird or other images? Seems like the paint job is fairly unusual.

Burtonwood was the depot for the 8th, 9th, 12th and 15th Air Force from June of '42. Was also known as BAD 1 or Base Air Depot 1.

Looks like an E nose maybe, but with some kind of a mod behind the 1st side window?

Definitely not an e-model.

Might not even be WWII as Butonwood repaired all European based B-17 until early the early 1950's

Originally thought she might have been 41-9043 but the cheek gun positions and other markings do not line-up.
