Osborne lists it as only lasting two months from delivery to salvage after being strafed on Java.

So, the picture was taken stateside? There were no P-39s in Java

That identification of the B-17E as 41-2488 has been questioned. It seems more likely it's 41-2486, which ended up with the 19th Bomb Group in Australia. It would be good to get a much closer look at that photo.
