B-17 Movies Updated

Post by aerovin2 »

I just added four movies that used B-17s in bit parts to the B-17 Movie page located at http://www.aerovintage.com/b17mov.htm

Added:

The High and the Mighty (1954)

Top of the World (1956)

Don't Look Now, We're Being Shot At (1966)

Biggest Bundle of Them All (1968)

Great stuff. Well, not really, but it fills in a few holes.

By the way, I am trying to beg, borrow, or steal a VHS or DVD copy of The Thousand Plane Raid so I can add that movie.

Scott,

The "unidentified" co-pilot n the B-17 is none other than
Carl 'Alfalfa' Switzer.

He was also a C-47 Co-Pilot in "Island in the Sky".

Is it worth putting these pages together? Does anybody care? No response on WIX, little traffic. Ugh. The tree falls in the forest and doesn't make a sound.

Yes, it matters.

If you don't do it, it will never get done.

YES! YES! YES!

This is THE website for B-17 facts.
The movie page is excellent, and packed with info.

Scott,
A Quality Reference Site, like Aero Vintage, does not really equal lots of hits. Traffic does not equal quality.
In the book world, novels outsell reference materials and text books. But your book, Final Cut, which I found at Planes of Fame in Chino, pushed my somewhat casual interest in Warbirds into an avocation. I sincerely thank-you for that.
Please keep adding information, including the movie information, for those of us who enjoy the wide range of B17 & B25 information.
As Dik said (something like), If you don't do this, who will?

I forgot - when I visit here on this computer, it does not include my "name". The above thank-you post for Scott is not from "guest" but from ww2john.

I come by the message boards not that often as I know it's not that active but I do visit the main page all the time and really look forward to the updates. I also don't post a lot here as seen when I had to sign up again.

If this forum was open to all Warbirds, and it just maybe, it would get more hits.

Also I'm a B-17 nut case and I like this because it's B-17 and B-25 related. I know of another board that breaks it down to heavy, medium and light bomber groups. I visit it less than I do here but it's a great site to hear from those that flew the planes.

So yes your work is appreciated so please keep it up!

Hi Scott,
Yes, I do appreciate the work you put into the movie listings!!!

TCM ran Flying Fortress recently and I saw about the first half before I fell asleep (just tired, not bored!) and there's some good shots of RAF B-17Cs - I'll have to record it next time it airs.

Biggest Bungle - er, Bundle had that IGN B-17 painted in a quickie OD scheme; (spoiler alert) the crooks loaded the gold in the plane and took off but accidentally opened the bomb bay doors and dropped it all, ha ha - the end.
