Re: Rebuild of B-17G 44-85734 "Liberty Belle"

Problem is you need to find people with disposable cash. When we run extrusions, we typically get buy-in for 4 or 5 planes worth of material. Costs per extrusion per plane can be between $1200 and $5200, depending on the extrusion. Then, understand that there are 25 main extrusions, plus dozens of ...

Re: June B-17 News

And to clarify what is going on.... The decision to partner with someone was made to try and expedite the Rat's restoration. We are not getting any younger! We recently ran 7 extrusions, and went through cubic money as Hang would say. So, a museum was looking to get in on a Fortress, and we are loo...

Re: Was there A Door in the Tunnel?

From the blueprints: The doors in the floor leading under the flight deck were there late into the B-17F production run. Note: Boeing built only - I do not have data for Douglas and Vega Metal doors with corrugation (as shown in the TO drawing above) ran from the B-17B through the B-17E, (Possibly ...

Re: Was there A Door in the Tunnel?

The door was there from the early models through the E. I've seen it
In early F drawings, but don't know at what serial number they were discontinued.
I'll look into it and post when I find some time.

We are moving...slowly...but moving none the less.
I'll make an effort to post something in the next
week or so.

The latest out of the B-17 iron works located at the Sugar Hill Institute of Technology.
This baby is destined to grace the nose of N3703G. Good work, Hang and the Gang!

Re: B-17 to Holland?

David, I'm not going to dissuade you from your project. The B-17C forum is my dream, which is S-L-O-W-L-Y coming together. If you are serious, then PM me an email address. I can forward you some "project" presentations and their estimated cost (from 4-6 years ago), just so you know what questions y...

Re: B-17 to Holland?

OK then - sections of B-17s are easier than a whole one. :-) There have been many who wanted to build sections for museums. Not cheap, but that can be done. I know The B-17 Alliance Group had plans on a flight sim/B-17 cockpit. We can make sections (Nose, cockpit, waist, tail), as well as Hang. Jus...

Re: B-17 to Holland?

Hi David. Welcome to all things B-17. That project on Warbird-Parts, if I'm not mistaken, is long gone. I remember looking at that listing 12 years ago. Maybe Chuck remembers better than me. There are B-17 bits and pieces around. There are also guys who will lead you to believe there are pristeen w...

Re: Movie "Air Force" Identity of "Mary Ann"

Well, in answer to HTE's question, who found this picture - http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa316/B17_Dry_Martini/B17Pict1_zpsl4pc4yca.jpg It was one of about 18 pictures, all from Drew Field, taken in early June, 1942. So, we have Drew Field - Check - Air Force was shot around there We have June...
