Re: Restoration of B-17E 41-2595 "Desert Rat"

Dry: Looking good...A couple of questions for you... Interesting on the color of the Bronze-Green. The AT has a bunch of it too, but it's color is different. Do the drawings or the books give a specification for the color? The Fairchild book simply says Bronze-Green bakelite enamel meeting Army Navy...

Re: Original source documents

I took a quick look at how the IPB's are done at Boeing and they are a bit different than everyone else. Boeing configured their catalog at that time, with a Usage Table, with letter coding for a block of serial numbers, that carries through the entire volume. You will need to run the table and pull...

Re: Original source documents

Did a little cruising thru some of the top level drawings. Based on the data presented on them, it appears that the Block number roll was probably altered due to significant parts shortages and design changes. From just a couple of drawings, the s/n's in question had over 100 design variances that a...

Re: Original source documents

Food for thought... What was the installed equipment changes from a Block 40 to a Block 45 aircraft? Could there have been enough of a parts shortage for critical equipment at that time, that the contracting officers issued a contract modification to equip those 35 aircraft as Block 40's, even thoug...

Re: Rebuild of B-17G 44-85734 "Liberty Belle"

Hi Chuck, does that mean that the entire blog is gone now, or do they have things severely honked up and just haven't managed to get it fixed yet?

Re: Rebuild of B-17G 44-85734 "Liberty Belle"

It appears that the Twisted Piston blog is defunct now. When you go to the site, you get a message that it is undergoing maintenance...same message it's been showing since 29 May.

Re: Scratch Build of B-17G 43-38083 "Happy Valley Express"

Usually for high rate production, section joints were simple bolt or rivet bulkhead face to face, or skin to bulkhead joints. With smaller aircraft, having a longeron lap joint is possible, but it does make the mating much harder than a face joint, or skin overlap. While this video is for the B-24, ...

Re: B-7 Cockpit Lamps

Eli: Bell's ad is the only place I've seen it. Give them a shout with the item number I listed in my previous response and see if the will send you a copy of that sheet. Looks like a copy was packed in the box with every light made.

Re: B-7 Cockpit Lamps

They are installed by brackets to fit the particular installation via the two face plate nuts. The case is drilled where necessary for a wire feed thru. BellsAviation.com has one with the installation sheet. I bet if you ask nice, they might make a copy for you. AIr Corp Spec 94-32228 gives the inst...

Re: Scratch Build of B-17G 43-38083 "Happy Valley Express"

Looking at the tan screen shot, how come the 2nd and 3rd frame from the right are sunken so much below the 1st and 4th frames?

Re: Scratch Build of B-17G 43-38083 "Happy Valley Express"

Looks to me from my limited view, that there is a placement error on the second bulkhead from the left. That or there is an artifact that is too small to see at that zoom level that was captured as the snap point when you did the curve layout. May need to roll to an overhead view and zoom in and out...

Hang: How about playing with this press: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPjVSryWC1A
I think the lube system has more in it's lines than the entire hydraulic system on yours... One of these days you are going to make a video of your press stamping out something....I hope!

Re: Looking for parts

I had some contact with him while I was moving my project to another storage facility, back in the late 80's. From what I remember, he wanted significant dollars for what he has. My set of rudders are in much better shape, although it would be nice to have a second set.
