Re: B-17's that are still outside...

never going to happen. For the past 40 years, numerous groups have attempted to get the Tulare B-17 and the AFM steadfast's refuses to move this aircraft. There are a couple of B-17s sitting on static outdoors that are full of corrosion but the AFM refuses to get them undercover. The only way any o...

B-17's that are still outside...

Going through the list of surviving air frames, paying particular attention to the ones that are on display outdoors, there seems to be a mismatch of air frames outside and museums with indoor floor space they would wish to fill. Is the next round of warbird restorations going to be smaller museums ...

Re: Rebuild of B-17G 44-85734 "Liberty Belle"

Hi all, Part of my job is the procurement of parts. Since the summer of 2011, I've been instructed that any time we have parts, extrusions or tubes made or purchased, I am to buy sufficient for two airplanes. The intent is to have both Liberty Belle and the Labrador B-17 restored, first priority be...

Re: Rebuild of B-17G 44-85734 "Liberty Belle"

B-17s at Dallas Love Field

Re: Unrecovered Wrecks

Not worth it. With the expense of recovery and the expensive of a rebuild which would be a almost entirely new build airframe, it is not feasible. There are some projects that are essentially new-build airframes, which was the point of my original post. 20-30 years ago these airframes were deemed "...

Unrecovered Wrecks

With the advancements in restoration technology over the last 20+ years, and previously unrestorable wrecks breathing new life again, adding in the fact that the Greenland ice sheet has been shrinking.. Is there any new hope for the two B-17s that lay crushed under the snow? Or has that always been ...
