Re: Mystery B-17 Trainer: Queenie with "U1" code
The gal from the Pipestone Museum sent me a couple of newspaper articles regarding Queenie. First from August 5, 1946 announcing her pending arrival. Second is from August 29, 1946 when she arrived. The pilot is named, Robert Hyde from the area so I'm going hunting for any sign of family that might ...

Re: Mystery B-17 Trainer: Queenie with "U1" code
Scott it looks like we both talked to the same gal at the Pipestone Museum. Now I know where the first images came from :) She did mention three scrapbooks she can't find at the moment, from the airport in the time frame Queenie was there so I have hopes more images exist. I'm planning on driving ou...

Re: Mystery B-17 Trainer: Queenie with "U1" code
It appears at least two of us are talking to the Pipestone history Museum. There is a gal there who gathered some info on this 17 but she's not back in until Wednesday when she will call me back. Is it anyone else from this board that's talking to them?

Re: Mystery B-17 Trainer: Queenie with "U1" code
Interesting to see these. I'd posted an image of this 17 a while back and got no nibble. Surprised to see it was in my home state.
The thread with my image of Queenie:

I'll get this one figured out. Probably time for a drive to Pipestone

Re: Ardmore based 17 Crew
Kind of liked this image recently acquired. Dated January 2, 1944 and stamped Ardmore, Oklahoma. Sadly no names. I'd love to trace the crew. They always look so ready to roll in the state side images. So tired once they've been shot at a few times. [/img] Dan Where does it show the date ?? is...

Hendricks Field E-models?
A recent pick up. Two Es and and F. I'm assuming based out of Hendricks due to the large numbers on the tail and nose. Nothing spectacular, and sadly another image that was not on great photo paper, but closer to card stock. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s199/guppy35/Flying%20Forts/hendricks17s...

A new 17 photo. Looking for some background
This one popped up on eBay. Taken in Tunisia/North Africa. I imagine it's in Steve's book on the B-17Fs but my copy is packed away at the moment. Some serious damage to the tail. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s199/guppy35/Flying%20Forts/damaged-Fort_zps7qfulasc.jpg Blow up of the tail. Not a lo...

Re: MacDill trainers - another copy
Sadly this image was on card stock and not a good one to scan and blow up for detail. Attached are the best I could do. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s199/guppy35/Flying%20Forts/K2Forts_zpsa0tk0qdv.jpg J2 http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s199/guppy35/Flying%20Forts/j2_zpsc9hyxhnb.jpg K2 http:...

I manged to snag that one with the intent of scanning the individual birds for the forum. Hopefully it's a decent print.
