B-17E Nemesis of Aeroembolism
Does anyone know what serial number this bird had? She was a high-altitude test bed at Wright-Patt. Looking up B-17Es that were assigned to Wright-Patterson, the only one noted as being used as a test bed aircraft is 41-2407 (Per B-17 Fortress Master Log, by David Osborne). http://www.planesofthepas...

Re: B-17E identity. A mystery for the masters
I don't see a yellow prop tip on engine #4. I do on all of the others. There was 41-9108 Alabama Exterminator . The below photos could be a later time and later season, but seems doubtful. http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p250/BoeingFortress/crash260642a.jpg http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p250...

Re: B-17E identity. A mystery for the masters
My theory is that it is My Gal Sal. Maybe this photo was shot later in the war? Either way, it doesn't seem to be a fresh crash (no disturbed ground). Granted, a night's worth of snow in Greenland could have covered her tracks by the next morning. If you look at later photos of her (1960s), she has ...

Re: The "Hawaiian Air Depot" Camouflage Scheme
From my collection... Unidentified B-17E on blocks. Would love to know what bird this is. http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p250/BoeingFortress/41-2487.jpg Thanks to some input from Jack Fellows I think we can be reasonably sure that it's the remains of 41-2409, Old Maid , on Guadalcanal. Still li...

Re: The "Hawaiian Air Depot" Camouflage Scheme
Steve,
Any idea what bird this might be? I cannot read the name on the nose. Looks as if the last word starts with a "P". Photo caption stated that the location is Guadalcanal.

Ok the "Belle" is on tour now. Back to work!
Seriously, any updates on either projects? Curious as to what you all are going to do with the ex-movie prop B-17. It does not to appear to have a chin turret opening, so I am assuming she will be built as an F-model?

You will be hard-pressed to find a more realistic looking B-17 model.

Hang,
Gathering from what I read...this nose cone is going to the Liberty Foundations "Memphis Belle" and it is going to be fitted with a single .50cal, historically accurate to wartime B-17Fs?

Re: Latest from the B-17 Works
This is great work. Is this F-nose mold in anticipation for future restorations, or is it to give the Memphis Belle (movie) a new nose? Thanks for sharing Bill!
