Note the different stencil styles on either side of the nose. Wonder when it got the cowboy nose art?

Hmm. One more screen grab: nice 1920 atmosphere, except for the '56 Chevy in the background

B-17G 42-97897 - accident photos?

I was looking up accidents occurring with B-17s from Buckingham Field in Florida and came up with only one G-model: 42-97897 had a landing accident in Texas on May 25, 1945. AAIR lists it with the 2118th Base Unit at Buckingham, but Osborne has it at Gulfport, MS. Are there any accident photos that ...

Re: Martin 250CE in a B-17?

Is that a Buckingham plane? I've been looking for Buckingham B-17s as the Paducah plane started its career there. Other aircraft types based there had "FM###" fuselage codes, but the only two Forts from that field I've found have two-digit numbers like Sebring or Lockbourne (from a YouTube video abo...

Re: Attn shoppers: A first? Grand Island B-17F trainer 42-5462

Not airbrushed I don't think; I think it's either very faded yellow or possibly the type of film used? I've seen some other trainer photos where the serial is barely visible but the codes stand out well, and vice versa (OD/NG Yuma ships are an example). Also note the "GI" looks like it's painted ove...

Attn shoppers: A first? Grand Island B-17F trainer 42-5462

On eBay right now in a large photo album: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52792547155_d504fd1bb2_h.jpg First Grand Island trainer I've seen. And now, in actual vintage color (had to fix it a bit): https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52792390554_7d9b82b545_o.jpg There's another full color overall...

Re: U.S. Civil B-17s 1949-1955

Good stuff, Scott! The shot of B-17F 42-3470 was a great find - wonder what that nose art says. Unusual to see the star-and-bar not painted out. Gotta help where I can... Best photos are of 41-2531 #13 (hard landing?) and 41-9117 #21 (tail chewed by B-17F 42-30946):

Spotted: 43-38635 in 1947

Way in the background and partly hidden by a C-74 at Wold-Chamberlain Field in Minneapolis, here's B-17G 43-38635 (now Virgin's Delight at the Castle museum): https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52746863090_a473026a15_k.jpg Taken March 14, 1947; in the last days of its career with Honeywell before g...

L.A. Times, August 20, 1945; ID confirmed. Is that a retrofitted B-17G main wheel?
