Ex-Tallman FM-2 Available for Purchase
I noted today that the ex-Tallman FM-2 owned by Comanche Warbirds (N29FG) has been listed for sale with Platinum Fighter Sales as the broker. Asking price is $1.695 million (if you have to ask...). The listing shows total airframe time as 509 hours with 10.6 hours since restoration. The site shows t...

May 1961 "Tortoise and the Hare" Air Race
I just added a page to my Tallmantz section on the May 1961 'race' between Frank Tallman's FG-1D Corsair and Lincoln LF-1 "Nieuport 28." The race was flown from Los Alamitos, CA, to Pensacola, FL, over 10 days. Not so well known today, but received a lot of press back then and was part of the 50th A...

Love Field B-17s
I added a post about the 13 PB-1Ws purchased as surplus in late 1957 by American Compressed Steel Corp, eleven of which ended up parked in a corner of Dallas-Love Field between 1958 and 1962. All of them made it to the civil registry and three survive...two on display at USAF bases and on on display...

Re: How "Picadilly Lilly 2" got to Chino
Those are some cool photos and I recognize some of them as appearing in a few 1970s publications like Air Classics.
Stating the obvious, but N3713G was at Chino for most, if not all, of 1964-1967. It made a few air shows circa 1970 and then was grounded, as it still is.

Eight myths about the B-17
I just added this post to the aerovintage website. For readers here, this is not new information. But on Facebook and other sites, and in some books too, you see these things repeated over and over. I thought it worth throwing eight (actually nine) of them together with explanations. https://www.aer...

Obscure civil B-17 during WWII
I just posted on an obscure AAF B-17G, 42-102642, that flew from RAF Bovingdon in November and December 1944 with the civil registration of NC19929. It was assigned to the HQ of VIII Bomber Command (actually USSTAF) during the time. Examining the scant information in the CAA airplane file and the av...

Yes, unfortunately, those are colorized photos of the scheme in question and only as good as a good guess. Still looking for a color photo of the scheme worn when it was with Vought...

Pyote AFB B-17 storage
I just added a post at aerovintage.com about the postwar storage of B-17s at Pyote AAF (otherwise known as the Rattlesnake Bomber Base) in west Texas. About 75 or so unused B-17s were stored there in the postwar years and they became the source of many of the DB-17s and QB-17s in the 1950-1959 perio...

Mantz FG-1D N63382
I've added a page to my Tallmantz site on this FG-1D (N63382) owned by Paul Mantz and, later, Tallmantz Aviation from 1957 to 1966. This Corsair was a Bendix racer in 1946 and 1957 and was flown by Vought Aircraft as a corporate aircraft in the mid 1950s but, beyond that, it has not enjoyed much uti...

Tallman FG-1D BuNo 88365 N9153Z
I just posted the history of the second of four FG-1Ds owned by Paul Mantz or Frank Tallman in the years between 1957 and 1969. This one, N9153Z sadly crashed in 1965. I'd sure like to see some photos of this Corsair at Buckeye, Arizona, when it was owned by Skip Underwood between 1963 and 1965. See...

Re: "The Kamchatka Incident" (TV 1964)
Seems unlikely to me based upon the straight donation of the DC-7B to Tallmantz from Continental Airlines in May 1964. I don't think Tallmantz probably would have had the nerve to fly the airplane for a TV project after what was probably (not known for sure) a non-flying arrangement by the donor. Th...

Re: 44-83809 - any known photos?
Chris,
No photos in my files, sorry to say. Interesting that this airplane later was part of the USAF B-17s sent to Bolivia in 1956.
As you note, it was a VB-17G, and assigned to Bolling after 1947.

I incorporated it into the page...thanks to Chris for finally getting the details. Chris: I need to resubscribe to a newspaper archive...which one do you use? Thanks.
