Re: An interesting B17E. Looking for insight

Steve,

Any insight to when the book will be released? I've followed this Zeamer/Sornaski story since I first read Jablonski's "Flying Fortress" as a kid.

Here you go. At first glance, it appears to be the OD over grey paint scheme.

All good points...yes, I see the color variance in the paint scheme on the fuselage.

Re: Is this a Hawiian17 depot Camo B-?

Paddle props...aka B-17F on up. Probably not a B-17E or younger (if you're a betting man). Hence not a Hawaiian camo B-17.

Re: PTO cargo 17 images.

Another thought is that maybe the framed 'E' nose was the only type in theater capable of supporting the .50cal machine gun (or multiple) - this may have been a simple response to developing Japanese fighter tactics once B-17Fs started showing up in the pacific. A one-piece 'F' nose would have requi...

B-17F 41-24548 "Harry the Horse" fuselage wreckage

According to pacificwrecks.com, an extensive section of fuselage existed as recent as 1998 (I know, not that recent). Anyone know if it is still there? Per pacificwrecks.com: "The wing center section remains in the former American bone yard area at Tadji Airfield. Reportedly, part of the fuselage se...

Re: A question about B-17E 41-2644, Los Lobos

Steve, I posted the photo of the fragmented Los Lobos nose art. Send me your email over private message, and I can send you a non-watermarked version of the photo. The picture was obtained from the Questmasters online museum, but does not appear to be there anymore. Link: http://www.questmasters.us/...

Re: A question about B-17E 41-2644, Los Lobos

Was Los Lobos not B-17E 41-9213? Pacific Wrecks has 41-9213 listed as Los Lobos/Rover Boy.

Re: A long shot, but worth a try

HAD was a temporary paint scheme...I think they all were eventually painted over with the standard olive drab over gray. Steve Birdsall can correct me if I'm wrong.

41-2668. I believe Harle Pease (MoH) flew this bird prior to getting shot down in another.

Re: A long shot, but worth a try

For comparison, here are the other B-17Es that returned with 41-2667. Here is 41-2444 https://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p250/BoeingFortress/41-2444%20Henderson%20Field.jpg I have the below listed in my files as 41-2444 , yet they do not show a tail number. Therefore, I am not positive the followin...

Re: A long shot, but worth a try

There is a patch job visible right below the pilot's access panel on the Ebay photo. That same patch job looks to be visible in a few of the photos I posted of San Antonio Rose.
